I will come back and carry you

It was – upon the road that leads
From here – unto eternity
Where all we have – our souls – to bear
And promises to keep

The deer collapse and calls her friend
“Will you still see me in the end”
“I will come back and carry you –
Once I’ve seen – our way through”

Beneath the hardened – outer shields
There lies the truth – though unrevealed.
Worth more than weight of coins of gold
The words from days of old

So – through the rain of cold and night
When her will – could no longer fight
“I will come back and carry you -“
Are words that ring on through

Though starved – naked and alone
Our tender deer – still lives along
With words that resonate so true
“I will remember you”
